  1. Prepare 1 . Cooked rice - 1 cup
  2. Take 2 . Gooseberry - 8 chopped finely
  3. Take 3 . Oil - 1 tbsp

  10. Take 10 . Curry leaves - few

  13. Take 13 . Peanut - 2 tbsp roasted
  14. Make ready 14 . Coriander leaves - to garnish
  15. Make ready 15 . Turmeric - pinch
  16. Take 16 . Hing - pinch

Its Gooseberry Rice or Nellikai Rice in Tamil. simple and easy yet ah healthy Lunch. Amla/Gooseberry(Nellikai) has lot of health benefits…its really good to include it in your daily diet with its richest form of Vitamin C. This is the first time I am trying Amla Rice. Add grated gooseberry and salt - mix rice well on low heat.

Instructions to make Gooseberry Rice:
  1. Cook rice and cool it completely.
  2. Heat oil in wide pan add mustard, cumin, channa dal and urad dal. Once dal turns golden brown add roasted peanut, curry leaves, broken chilli and chopped ginger.
  3. Roast peanut for 1 minute in oil. Now add chopped gooseberry and cook for 1 minute in medium flame. Add salt.
  4. Add hing and turmeric. Saute a bit. Now add the rice and mix thoroughly each and every rice should be coated nicely. Adjust salt level.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and 1 tsp of ghee. Mix and serve hot.

Continue to mix and heat simultaneously for couple of more minutes. Gooseberry, is a common name for many species of Ribes (which also includes currants) and other species of plants.
