Steps to make Kali Mirch Chicken:
  1. Marination for chicken: Take a bowl add 300g chicken and then add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste, 1/4 tsp black pepper powder and 1 tbsp lemon juice; mix it properly. Keep it aside for 15- 30 minutes.
  2. For gravy, take a pan pour 3 tbsp oil, add raw spices such as 2 cloves, 2 cardamoms, little bit of nutmeg and small piece of cinnamon stick; cook all the raw spices for 2 minutes on high flame (keep stirring).
  3. After 2 minutes add onion paste into the pan and cook it on high flame till oil comes on surface (keep stirring). Once oil comes on surface then add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and cook it for 5 minutes on high flame (keep stirring it).
  4. After 5 minutes add marinated chicken into the pan and cook it on high flame for 7-8 minutes (keep stirring it).
  5. After 7-8 minutes add half cup yogurt and cook it on high flame till oil comes on surface (keep stirring it).
  6. Once oil comes on surface, add 1/8 tsp poppy seeds (posta), 1 tsp garam masala, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 3/4 tsp cumin powder, salt to taste and 1/4 tsp black pepper powder; cook it again on high flame till oil comes on surface.
  7. Once oil comes on surface, add the key ingredient that is 1 tsp 'crushed black pepper'. Now cook it for 2 minutes on high flame (keep stirring it).
  8. After 2 minutes add half cup fresh cream, mix it well and then cook it again on high flame till oil comes on surface.
  9. Once oil comes on surface, add 2 cup of water, mix it and wait for a boil and then cook it on low flame with covered lid till oil comes on surface.
  10. Once oil comes on surface then add 1 tbsp fenugreek leaves (kasuri meethi) and again cook it for 5 minutes on low flame with covered lid.
  11. After 5 minutes, Murgh kali mirch gravy is ready to serve. Dish out and serve chicken kali mirch hot with lachcha paratha or phulkas or nan or pulao of your choice.
